Mawego Technical Training Institute is seeking a qualified and experienced Aquaculture Technician to support the institution's training and practical programs. The technician will be responsible for laboratory coordination, maintaining water quality, managing equipment, and supporting both trainers and trainees during practical sessions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Laboratory Coordination: Organize and coordinate laboratory work to ensure efficient use is made of equipment; prepare equipment and chemicals prior to practical lessons.
Inventory and Maintenance: Maintain and repair laboratory apparatus and equipment; ensure chemicals, drugs, and other materials are stored safely and appropriately.
Safety Compliance: Ensure all health and safety procedures are fully understood and strictly followed within the laboratory and culture setups.
Student Support: Assist trainees with practical lessons and maintain record keeping for practical sessions, tracking methods and results.
Aquaculture Management: Monitor and maintain water quality within the culture systems.
Liaison: Coordinate with academic staff to discuss timetables, equipment requirements, and lesson work plans.
Other Duties: Perform any other relevant duties assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements for Appointment
Education: Diploma in Aquaculture.
Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of relevant working experience.
Professional Knowledge: Solid understanding of quality assurance and accreditation requirements.
Soft Skills: Excellent communication, teamwork abilities, and high standards of integrity.
