Job Description
Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital (KUTRRH) is seeking to recruit an Adult Infectious Disease Specialist. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert diagnosis and management of infectious diseases, supporting infection prevention and control (IPC), and contributing to antimicrobial stewardship efforts within the hospital.
Key Responsibilities
Evaluate and manage complex infectious diseases including HIV, Tuberculosis (TB), sepsis, and emerging infections.
Advise on antimicrobial therapy and lead antimicrobial stewardship initiatives across the facility.
Collaborate with Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) teams on surveillance, outbreak investigation, and containment measures.
Provide inpatient and outpatient consultations and liaise with specialized units such as ICU, oncology, and surgical services.
Guide vaccination protocols, post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), and occupational health recommendations.
Participate in the development and periodic review of clinical guidelines, protocols, and training modules for Infectious Diseases and IPC.
Contribute to clinical research, medical audits, and monitoring of antimicrobial resistance trends.
Teach and mentor clinicians, residents, and other trainees in the field of infectious diseases.
Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from an institution recognized by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
Master of Medicine (MMed) in Internal Medicine from an institution recognized by KMPDC.
Fellowship or sub-specialty training in Infectious Diseases recognized by KMPDC.
Current registration and recognition as a specialist/sub-specialist by the KMPDC.
Valid Practice License and valid Indemnity Cover.
Proficiency in computer applications.
Must be compliant with the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
