Role Overview
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a WESR Project Implementation Consultant to lead the development and delivery of the World Environment Situation Room (WESR) platform. This role involves high-level coordination, technical requirements management, and strategic implementation in collaboration with product management and DevOps teams. The consultant will be instrumental in ensuring the WESR platform serves as an authoritative and authoritative advocate for the environment by providing data-driven insights and enabling informed decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Leadership: Lead the overall development and delivery of the WESR platform, managing vendor relations and ensuring implementation meets requirements in collaboration with technical teams.
Project Oversight: Monitor and analyze project development and implementation; identify problems, initiate corrective actions, and ensure consistent follow-up.
Strategic Support: Contribute to the implementation of the WESR road-map and scope new use-cases for the platform.
Team Management: Direct day-to-day tasks and assignments for the team, fostering collaboration across different units within the CDO to support the WESR project.
Resource Mobilization: Support partnership and funding efforts by preparing value proposition materials and delivering presentations to potential targets.
Innovation: Propose improvements and new features for the platform, including technical and financial analysis of required resources and managing implementation plans.
Reporting & Outputs: Prepare written outputs such as background papers, analysis, report sections, and inputs to official publications.
Technical Coordination: Oversee all physical, ICT, and knowledge products related to the WESR project.
Financial Planning: Provide inputs for WESR budgeting and funding, including project preparation, progress reports, and financial statements.
Data Analysis & Visualization: Use data visualization methods to analyze trends, provide insights through charts and reports, and enable data-driven planning and reporting.
Project Governance: Oversee all activities within the WESR project management scope, identifying goals and monitoring overall progress.
Qualifications and Experience
Academic Background: Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in IT, Data Science, Information Management, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or a related field. A first-level university degree with additional qualifying experience may be accepted.
Professional Experience: At least seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in data-related project/programme management, IT, digital transformation, or a related field.
Technical Leadership: Mandatory experience leading data-intensive platforms and digital/data product development teams.
Desirable Credentials: Successful completion of data analytics or data science programs (degree or non-degree) is a plus.
Contextual Knowledge: Experience with international multi-agency projects, particularly within environmental contexts, is highly desirable.
Specialized Skills: Two (2) or more years of experience specifically in data science or analytics is preferred.
