Job Description
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the UN agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. The Urban Economy Branch of UN-Habitat has the mandate to promote local capabilities of local governments through the Portfolio of Urban Finance and Local Economic Development (PFS).
The Urban Finance & Economy Intern will provide critical support to the Urban Economy Branch. This role involves assisting with research, communication, and the organization of capacity-building initiatives aimed at improving local economic development and urban finance systems globally.
Responsibilities
Support PFS in carrying out research on Urban Finance, Local Governance, and Local Economic Development issues and trends.
Support PFS in preparing communication and fundraising materials in the space of Urban Finance, Local Governance, and Local Economic Development, including Project Proposals and PowerPoint Presentations.
Support PFS in coordinating, organizing, preparing, and delivering capacity building and knowledge-sharing initiatives and events with stakeholders.
Assist in the development of guidelines and policies, drafting and commenting on documents, comment revision, and producing information materials and supporting visuals.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements and Qualifications
Applicants must at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements:
Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent).
Have graduated with a Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent.
Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
