The Theatre Nurse provides safe, effective, and high-quality perioperative nursing care by supporting surgical procedures through scrubbing, circulating, and recovery functions. This role ensures adherence to infection prevention protocols, patient safety standards, and clinical best practices while maintaining compliance with clinical governance frameworks including Ministry of Health regulations, SafeCare, and ISO standards. The position aligns with Plainsview Hospital’s strategic objectives on quality, patient safety, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Perioperative Nursing Care: Deliver safe perioperative care by performing scrub, circulating, and recovery room duties in accordance with surgical protocols.
Theatre Preparation: Ensure proper preparation of the theatre environment, surgical instruments, and equipment to meet safety requirements.
Infection Prevention & Control (IPC): Adhere strictly to sterile techniques and aseptic protocols to minimize surgical site infections.
Surgical Coordination: Coordinate effectively with surgeons, anesthetists, and theatre staff to facilitate smooth procedures and minimize delays.
Patient Care: Manage pre-operative patient preparation and monitor recovery to promote safe surgical outcomes.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of surgical procedures, instrument counts, and incidents in compliance with hospital standards.
Emergency Support: Maintain readiness to support emergency surgical procedures and respond to critical situations.
Quality & Audits: Participate in theatre audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
Resource Management: Ensure proper handling and accountability of surgical consumables and theatre equipment.
Outreach: Support the planning and execution of surgical camps in collaboration with operations and business development teams.
Strategic Program Responsibilities
Implement hospital strategic priorities focusing on excellence in perioperative care and patient safety.
Maintain clinical accountability by adhering to surgical safety protocols and escalating risks.
Optimize theatre utilization and reduce turnaround times for better operational efficiency.

Requirements and Qualifications
Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (KRCHN / BScN).
Valid Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) practicing license.
