The University of Eldoret is seeking qualified individuals for the position of Technologist - Physics. This role is essential for the smooth operation of academic laboratories and workshops, primarily focusing on the preparation of learning materials and the maintenance of technical equipment to support students and research staff.
Duties and Responsibilities
Practical Support: Collection and preparation of teaching and research materials to facilitate student practicals.
Procurement: Initiate procurement processes for laboratory/workshop tools, materials, machines, and equipment; participate in developing annual procurement plans for the department.
Laboratory Design: Design laboratory/workshop arrangements and assist in carrying out various field activities.
Safety Management: Ensure students follow laboratory/workshop safety procedures to minimize accidents and equipment breakages.
Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance and repair of laboratory facilities and equipment to ensure they are in optimal condition for use.
Manual Development: Participate in the development of laboratory manuals in collaboration with lecturers to guide students during practicals.
Supervision: Assign duties to laboratory/workshop assistants/attendants to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Inventory Management: Keep, manage, and remain responsible for laboratory/workshop inventory.
Requirements for Appointment
Diploma in the relevant field from a recognized institution.
At least five (5) years of relevant work experience.
Proficiency in computer applications.
Continuous management training lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
First Aid and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) training.
Membership registration with a relevant professional body.
Terms and Conditions
This position is offered on permanent and pensionable terms. Remuneration will be as per the current University policies and regulations.
