Role Overview
The University of Eldoret is seeking qualified Technologists in the field of Food Science and Consumer Sciences. These positions are on permanent and pensionable terms and are central to the facilitation of academic and research activities within the university laboratories and workshops. The successful candidates will be responsible for preparing materials for practical sessions, ensuring laboratory safety, maintaining equipment, and supporting both students and academic staff in their practical endeavors.
Duties and Responsibilities
Instructional Support: Collect and prepare teaching and research materials to facilitate student practicals.
Procurement: Initiate procurement processes for laboratory/workshop tools, materials, machines, and equipment; participate in developing annual procurement plans for the department.
Facility Management: Design laboratory/workshop arrangements and assist in carrying out various field activities.
Safety Compliance: Ensure students strictly follow laboratory/workshop safety procedures to minimize accidents and breakages.
Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance and repair of laboratory facilities and equipment to ensure they are in good condition for use.
Documentation: Participate in the development of laboratory manuals in collaboration with lecturers to guide students.
Supervision: Assign duties to laboratory/workshop assistants and attendants to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Inventory Control: Keep, manage, and take responsibility for laboratory/workshop inventory.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: Diploma in the relevant field (Food Science and Consumer Sciences) from a recognized institution.
Experience: At least five (5) years of relevant work experience.
Training: Continuous management training lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
Certifications: Training in First Aid and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS).
Professionalism: Membership registration with a relevant professional body.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in computer applications.
