The University of Eldoret is seeking qualified Technologists in the field of Chemistry to support its academic and research functions. This role involves the collection and preparation of teaching and research materials to facilitate students' practical sessions, ensuring laboratory safety, and managing inventory. This is a permanent and pensionable position.
Duties and Responsibilities
Practical Facilitation: Collection and preparation of teaching and research materials to facilitate students' practical sessions.
Procurement: Initiate procurement processes for laboratory/workshop tools, materials, machines, and equipment.
Laboratory Design: Design laboratory/workshop arrangements and assist in carrying out various laboratory/workshop field activities.
Safety Compliance: Ensure students follow laboratory/workshop safety procedures to minimize accidents and breakages in the laboratory/workshop.
Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance and repair of laboratory facilities and equipment to ensure facilities are in good condition for use.
Instructional Support: Participate in the development of laboratory manuals in collaboration with lecturers to guide students in carrying out practicals.
Supervision: Assign duties to laboratory/workshop assistants and attendants for a clean and safe work environment.
Planning: Participate in developing annual procurement plans for the department to ensure supplies are made available for learning and teaching.
Inventory Management: Keep, manage, and be responsible for laboratory/workshop inventory.
Requirements and Qualifications
Diploma in the relevant field (Chemistry) from a recognized institution.
At least five (5) years of relevant work experience.
Proficiency in computer applications.
Continuous management training lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
First Aid and Occupational Health and Safety training.
Membership registration with a relevant professional body.
