The University of Eldoret is seeking to recruit qualified individuals for the position of Technologist - Biology. The role involves supporting the academic and research functions of the department by maintaining the laboratory environment, preparing essential materials for student practicals, and ensuring the safety and efficiency of laboratory operations.
Responsibilities and Duties
Material Preparation: Collect and prepare teaching and research materials to facilitate students' practical lessons.
Procurement: Initiate procurement processes for laboratory/workshop tools, materials, machines, and equipment, and participate in developing annual procurement plans for the department.
Laboratory Design & Management: Design laboratory/workshop arrangements and assist in carrying out various field activities.
Safety Compliance: Ensure students follow laboratory/workshop safety procedures to minimize accidents and breakages.
Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance and repair of laboratory facilities and equipment to ensure they are in good working condition.
Collaboration: Participate in the development of laboratory manuals in collaboration with lecturers to guide students through practical work.
Supervision: Assign duties to laboratory/workshop assistants and attendants to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Inventory Management: Keep, manage, and take responsibility for the laboratory/workshop inventory.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education: A Diploma in Biology or a relevant field from a recognized institution.
Experience: At least five (5) years of relevant work experience.
Training: Must have completed continuous management training lasting at least four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
Certifications: Training in First Aid and Occupational Health and Safety is required.
Professional Membership: Registration with a relevant professional body.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in computer applications.
Terms of Service
This position is offered on permanent and pensionable terms. Remuneration will be determined in accordance with current University policies and regulations.
