Kenyatta University is seeking a Technician for the Microbiology Section within the Natural Products Research Centre (NPRC). The successful candidate will report to the Director, NPRC, and will be responsible for providing technical support in both laboratory and field settings to facilitate research on medicinal plants and herbal materials.
Responsibilities
Maintain current Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) within the microbiology section.
Prepare and review standard operating procedures (SOPs) for various laboratory processes.
Identify medicinal plants and herbal materials during field excursions.
Collect, harvest, and transport medicinal plant materials from the field to the NPRC.
Participate in both primary and secondary processing of herbal materials for research and production.
Use microscopic and macroscopic techniques to identify herbal materials and detect potential adulterants in the laboratory.
Requirements and Qualifications
A Bachelor of Science (BSc.) Degree from a registered and recognized University in Botany, Applied Biology, or Plant Sciences.
KCSE mean Grade C+ (plus) or equivalent and above.
Relevant working experience in a busy Teaching, Research, or Quality Control Laboratory.
Experience working in a herbarium will be considered an added advantage.
Must be computer literate.
Terms of Service
The terms of service for this position include a basic salary and a house allowance.
