This role is designed for educators who are passionate about transforming the lives of African youth through world-class teaching methods and 21st-century skills. The intern will provide a safe, secure, and engaging environment for students, ensuring that curriculum objectives are met through innovative lesson planning and execution.
Key Responsibilities
Environment & Safety: Maintain a safe and secure environment where children feel comfortable and supported.
Instruction & Planning: Plan and execute daily activities according to the curriculum, schemes of work, and lesson plans. Use various teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of students.
Resource Management: Provide and manage classroom materials and resources to facilitate exploration, creative play, and learning.
Student Monitoring: Instruct and monitor students in the safe use and care of equipment and materials.
Developmental Activities: Organize and lead games and activities designed to promote physical, mental, and social development.
Classroom Preparation: Prepare indoor and outdoor learning spaces to facilitate motor-skill activities and creative play.
Reporting & Evaluation: Observe and evaluate each child's progress, providing written reports to the Principal, school leaders, and parents.
Record Keeping: Maintain detailed records and reports on children’s progress and development.
Classroom Management: Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures to maintain order.
Experiential Learning: Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, and visits by guest speakers.
Professional Development: Attend meetings, conferences, and workshops to continuously improve professional competence.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: Currently enrolled in or have completed a teacher training course (e.g., Bachelor of Education, Primary Teacher Education, ECDE).
Recommendations: Must have strong recommendations from a high school, teacher training institution, or a previous educational employer.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in technology tools including G-Suite, Zoom, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Soft Skills: Must be a proactive problem solver, flexible, and capable of handling uncertainty and complexity.
Cultural Fit: Excited about organizational culture, open to mutual vulnerability, and receptive to constant feedback.
Passion: A genuine passion for children and a desire to develop leadership skills within an educational context.
