The Supervisor for Surgical Consulting Clinics is responsible for the day-to-day smooth running of the unit, including staffing, patient scheduling, and coordination of patient care. The role involves leading the consulting clinic team in setting and achieving annual goals aligned with the program and nursing division’s strategic objectives. The supervisor works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and effective patient care while maintaining professional standards and fostering a positive work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management: Oversee daily unit operations, ensuring efficient staffing, patient scheduling, and care coordination.
Strategic Leadership: Lead the team in formulating, implementing, and evaluating annual goals in line with strategic objectives.
Policy and Standards: Collaborate on the development and review of clinical pathways, care guidelines, and protocols.
Staff Development: Participate in recruitment, conduct performance reviews, and provide opportunities for staff training and professional growth.
Resource Management: Manage unit budgets, control costs, and ensure efficient utilization of resources and supplies.
Quality Improvement: Lead unit-based Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) projects and Clinical Care Program Certification (CCPC).
Patient Satisfaction: Address client complaints promptly and monitor satisfaction surveys to improve services.
Innovation: Initiate evidence-based strategies to enhance patient care and nursing practice.
Job Requirements
Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BScN).
Licensure: Registered Nurse with current licensure from the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
Certification: Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years clinical nursing experience in a Medical-Surgical unit within an acute care hospital.
Leadership: At least 2–3 years of experience in a leadership position within medical-surgical units.
Skills: Proficient in basic computer skills and excellent interpersonal/communication abilities.
Competencies: Ability to teach and cascade information, work within a multidisciplinary team, and demonstrate leadership and management skills.
