Job Description
The Pharmacy Technologist Assistant at the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is responsible for managing pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical supplies, ensuring the safe dispensing of medications, and maintaining rigorous inventory and safety standards. The role involves supporting healthcare professionals by providing drug information and ensuring the efficient distribution of commodities within the facility to support humanitarian relief and development.
Key Responsibilities
Supply Chain & Inventory Management: Order, receive, verify, and record all incoming pharmacy items. Maintain proper filing and storage of documents in the hospital drug store. Monitor stock levels and consult with supervisors to prevent unnecessary stock-outs.
Dispensing & Patient Care: Dispense medication to patients and clients while providing relevant drug information to patients and other healthcare professionals. Offer pharmaceutical advice when required.
Quality Control & Safety: Adhere to infection control procedures, policies, and regulations. Ensure proper maintenance of the cold chain and monitor the temperature of the cold room and fridge daily.
Monitoring & Evaluation: Regularly monitor expiry dates and slow-moving items. In consultation with supervisors, advise prescribers/users on poorly utilized stock. Conduct regular physical inventory to ensure compliance.
Nutritional Commodities: Ensure the efficient distribution of nutrition commodities within the pharmacy.
Reporting: Assist supervisors in preparing consumption reports and tracking pharmaceutical usage.
Safeguarding: Uphold the highest standards of integrity and professional conduct by preventing abuse, exploitation, or harassment. Promote a safe and respectful environment for clients and colleagues.
Key Result Areas
Accurate and timely documentation of all pharmaceutical items received.

Required Qualifications, Experience and Competencies
Education: A Diploma in Pharmacy from a recognized institution.
Licensing: Must be enrolled by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board and possess a valid practice license.
Experience: At least one (1) year of experience in a hospital pharmacy. Minimum of 1 year post-internship experience working in a busy health facility.
Skills: Excellent communication and writing skills, computer literacy, and strong customer care abilities.
Languages: Proficiency in written and spoken English.
Personal Attributes: A team player capable of working ethically in a demanding environment.
