Job Description
The Strategy & Axis Coordinator at the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a pivotal role dedicated to supporting the development and operationalization of a specialized Fund. This role focuses on the Sudan local response ecosystem, ensuring that strategic initiatives are grounded in local realities through high-level stakeholder engagement, inclusive governance development, and targeted coordination within specific geographic axes. The Coordinator acts as a bridge between the Fund's management and grassroots actors, including civil society organizations and mutual aid networks, to foster a locally led humanitarian response.
Responsibilities
Stakeholder Consultation and Engagement
Support structured consultations with Sudanese stakeholders (CSOs, ERRs, Mutual aid, grassroots networks, etc.) to inform the Fund’s development.
Facilitate dialogue sessions and ensure perspectives from diverse regions and constituencies are reflected.
Support inclusive engagement with grassroots and informal actors and synthesize consultation insights.
Governance Development
Contribute to the development of credible, inclusive governance arrangements grounded in Sudanese realities.
Support work on governance structures, decision-making bodies, and mechanisms for stakeholder participation.
Implement accountability and transparency measures alongside safeguards for locally led decision-making.
Strategic Development and Axis Prioritization
Refine the Fund’s strategic approach and support the development of the axis prioritization framework.
Provide contextual analysis on local response ecosystems and political economy dynamics.
Support discussions to identify and conceptualize the first geographic axis for engagement.
Facilitate strategy workshops and consultations.
Coordination of Axis Engagement
Lead coordination of the Fund’s work within the first selected geographic axis.
Support the development of the axis engagement strategy and coordinate relationships with local actors.
Facilitate dialogue between the Fund and locally led response actors to inform programming priorities.
Supporting Accessible Funding Processes
Ensure funding modalities remain accessible to diverse local actors by facilitating dialogue with the Fund Management Unit.
Identify barriers to participation faced by grassroots actors and support approaches to expand access for community-based actors.
Learning and Systems Analysis
Identify emerging needs, opportunities, and risks within the local response ecosystem.
Support reflection and learning processes to inform adaptive programming.
Representation and Coordination
Represent the Fund in relevant coordination discussions and civil society networks connected to the axis.
Build and maintain constructive relationships between the Fund and locally led response systems.
Requirements and Qualifications
Mandatory
Education: University degree in International Development, Business Administration, Political Science, or a related field.
Experience: At least 7 years of experience in humanitarian, development, or civil society programming.
Contextual Knowledge: Strong understanding of Sudan’s civil society landscape and locally led response systems.
Operational Environment: Experience working in conflict-affected environments.
Languages: Professional written and spoken proficiency in both Arabic and English.
Desirable
Experience working with civil society networks, Emergency Response Rooms (ERRs), or mutual aid initiatives.
Familiarity with pooled fund mechanisms or multi-donor initiatives.
Experience supporting governance or strategy development processes.
French language skills.
