Senior Technician – Quality Assurance Section (Grade E/F)

The Senior Technician – Quality Assurance Section (Grade E/F) at Kenyatta University is responsible for the oversight and technical operations within the Quality Assurance (QA) laboratories. Reporting to the Director of the Natural Products Research Centre (NPRC), the successful candidate will ensure the integrity of analytical processes, maintain high laboratory standards, and perform complex chemical analyses using specialized instrumentation.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the day-to-day operations and running of the Quality Assurance laboratories.
• Prepare and review standard operating procedures (SOPs), documents, and records in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standards.
• Ensure the proper handling, preparation, and storage of all samples prior to instrumental analysis.
• Conduct chemical analysis utilizing advanced analytical instruments, including LC-MS/MS, GC/MS, FTIR, UV-VIS, HPTLC, and XRF.
• Oversee and enforce Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) within the general laboratory environment.
• Develop and validate analytical methods specifically for the analysis of natural products.
• Perform comprehensive data analysis, interpret analytical results, and guarantee the accuracy and correctness of reported data.
• Manage periodic and routine inspections of laboratory instruments and maintain documentation for external calibrations.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Education: Must hold an MSc. Degree from a registered and recognized University specializing in Analytical Chemistry or Natural Products Chemistry.
• Undergraduate: A BSc. Degree from a recognized University.
• Secondary Education: KSCE mean Grade C+ (plus) or its equivalent and above.
• Experience: At least three (3) years of relevant working experience in a high-volume Teaching, Research, or Quality Control Laboratory.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating analytical equipment such as LC-MS/MS, GC/MS, FTIR, UV-VIS, HPTLC, and XRF is highly desirable.
• Literacy: Must be computer literate.
