SBM Bank Kenya is looking for a Senior Relationship Manager for its Card Business. The overall purpose of this role is the management of card business activities ranging from prospecting, acquisition, utilization, retention, and introduction of new card solutions. The role involves card business growth through the acquisition of new cardholders by liaising with all bank stakeholders, including but not limited to Consumer, SME/Commercial, and Corporate banking teams. The position also involves relationship management with internal stakeholders, card vendors, processors, schemes, and local industry associations to ensure the bank remains competitive.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy (20%)
Drive card business development for all card products (Debit, Prepaid, and Credit) for new and existing Corporate and Retail clients.
Implement and support new and other existing card products as required.
Support the development and documentation of strategic and business plans for the Card business, ensuring timely implementation and monitoring.
Design and share strategies for Credit Card acquisition involving internal and external stakeholders.
Maintain stock levels and participate in the design of card business solutions.
Business Development (45%)
Grow and retain the assigned card portfolio in numbers, volumes, and revenue streams.
Liaise with Branch networks, WPB & Elite, CX, Corporate, Institutional Banking, and Marketing teams to grow card product numbers.
Expand relationships with existing partnerships and secure new partnerships for business growth.
Manage deal pipelines for prospective clientele systematically.
Collaborate with Corporate and SME Departments for card acquisition in their respective sectors.
Participate in product development relevant to the Card Centre and the wider card industry.
Plan training and feedback sessions for stakeholders on card product features, benefits, and industry trends.
Compliance (20%)
Ensure compliance with both internal and external regulatory requirements.
Work with Credit & Operational Risk and Compliance units to mitigate risks associated with Debit, Prepaid, and Credit cards.
Review and update business operational policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
People Management (10%)
Provide coaching, mentorship, and training to allocated staff to build expertise in card services.
Follow up with regional managers and branch teams to ensure optimal performance in card acquisition.
Conduct periodical feedback sessions with stakeholders to address challenges and communicate activities.
Other (5%)
Safeguard and promote the bank’s image with the general public.
Ensure all assigned Card Business tasks are delivered within the established timeframes.

Key Customers: CX Team, Card Operations, SME/Commercial & Corporate Teams, Asset Finance, WPB, Women and Youth segments, Branch network, and Procurement.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: Business graduate from an accredited University, preferably in a Business-related course or social sciences.
Experience: 5 years of Card Business Banking experience, with at least 2 years in a management role.
Knowledge: Excellent understanding of current and emerging trends in the card payment industry.
Skills: Strong Card Business Development and Relationship Management skills.
