Role Overview
Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) is seeking a Senior Ports & Shipping Services Officer to provide regulatory oversight and enhance the efficiency of Kenya's maritime industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring industry performance standards, undertaking statistical analysis on maritime transport costs, and supporting the development of the maritime cluster.
Key Responsibilities
Industry Monitoring: Monitor industry performance standards and undertake statistical analysis on maritime transport costs and other related commercial maritime activities.
Data Management: Determine and implement appropriate statistical software for the computation, manipulation, and analysis of commercial maritime services data; carry out data mining and analysis on maritime transport standards.
Reporting: Coordinate the publication of statistical reports on freight, maritime transport costs, and service standards; write quarterly, mid-term, and annual reports related to the Mombasa Port Community Charter.
Stakeholder Engagement: Assist in conducting/coordinating shippers’ awareness workshops on international trade facilitation and INCOTERMS; organize workshops, seminars, and conferences to sensitize stakeholders on maritime cluster development.
Collaboration: Assist in monitoring and evaluation related to the implementation of the Mombasa Port Community Charter and Memorandum of Cooperation; collect progress reports from port community players.
Maritime Cluster Development: Assist in the development of the maritime cluster by collaborating with other institutions and conducting publicity campaigns to promote investments.
International Conventions: Assist in coordinating the implementation of the FAL Convention.
Database Maintenance: Develop and maintain a database on investments in the maritime cluster, including coastal shipping, inland waterways, and multimodal transport.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following fields:
Business Management
Business Administration (Finance and Accounting option)
Maritime Studies
Port Management
Transport Economics
Bachelor of Dental Surgery
Professional Training: Completion of a Supervisory Course lasting at least two (2) weeks.
Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience, which should have been at the level of a senior officer.
