This is a senior position within Pwani University's academic and research structure (Ref: PU/ADV/02/05/2026). The appointee will be expected to provide academic and research leadership to faculty members in lower grades. Appointment is offered on either Permanent and Pensionable terms or on a three (3) year renewable performance-based contract, depending on age, citizenship, and other relevant factors.
Key Responsibilities
Provide academic and research leadership to members in lower academic/research grades.
Teach, conduct research, and supervise both students and staff.
Design and develop academic programs and curricula.
Participate in departmental management and oversee students' academic/research advising.
Attend school and university/institutional meetings and serve on various committees.
Demonstrate community involvement (e.g., as a member of a Board of Governors).
Requirements and Qualifications
Academic Qualifications: Must possess a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB), and a Masters in Medicine (MMed) in a surgical discipline (General Surgery, Plastic Surgery, or Pediatric Surgery) OR be a Member of the College of Surgeons (MCS) and a Fellow of the College of Surgeons (General Surgery, Plastic Surgery, or Paediatric Surgery).
Additional Qualifications: A Fellowship or PhD will be considered an added advantage.
Professional Membership: Must be a member of relevant professional bodies.
Experience & Contribution: Evidence of contribution to a University or Research Institution through activities such as departmental management, student advising, and committee membership.
Publications: A minimum of one publication is preferred and will be an added advantage.
