Senior Lecturer in Gross Anatomy

Role Overview

This is a senior position in the University teaching or research career path. The appointee will be expected to provide academic and research leadership to members in lower academic and research grades. Appointment is offered on either Permanent and Pensionable terms or on a three (3) year renewable performance-based contract, depending on age, citizenship, or other relevant factors.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

• Teaching and Research: Conduct lectures, lead research projects, and supervise both students and staff members within the Department of Gross Anatomy.
• Curriculum Development: Design and develop academic programs and specialized curricula to ensure the highest standards of medical education.
• Academic Leadership: Provide mentorship and guidance to junior academic staff and students.
• Institutional Contribution: Actively participate in departmental management, school or university-level committee meetings, and other institutional administrative matters.
• Advisory Services: Provide academic and research advising to students to facilitate their professional and academic progress.
• Community Engagement: Demonstrate involvement in community activities, such as serving as a member of a Board of Governors (BOG).

Requirements and Qualifications

• Academic Qualifications:
  • Must have a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) and a Masters in Medicine (MMed) in a surgical discipline (e.g., General Surgery, Orthopedics, ENT, Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracic surgery, Urology, Plastics Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Ophthalmology, or Obstetrics/Gynaecology, etc.).
  • OR Must have a Bachelor in Dental Surgery (BDS) and a Masters in Medicine in Maxillofacial Surgery or Orthodontics.
• Additional Advantages: Possession of a Fellowship, Research Fellowship, or PhD is considered a distinct advantage.
• Professional Standing: Must be a member of relevant professional bodies.
• Experience & Contributions:
  • Evidence of contribution to a University or Research Institution through activities such as departmental management, student advising, or committee membership.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching, conducting research, and supervising staff/students.
  • Experience in the design and development of academic programs.
• Research Output:
  • Participation in Clinical trials is an added advantage.
  • A minimum of one publication is an added advantage.
