This is a senior academic and research position at Pwani University within the Department of Child Health and Pediatrics. The appointee is expected to provide academic and research leadership to members in lower academic and research grades. Appointment is either on Permanent and Pensionable terms or on a three (3) year renewable performance-based contract, depending on age, citizenship, or other university guidelines.
Responsibilities and Duties
Teaching and Supervision: Teach, conduct research, and supervise undergraduate and/or postgraduate students and staff.
Curriculum Development: Design and develop academic programs and curricula in the field of Child Health and Pediatrics.
Academic Leadership: Provide leadership in research activities and contribute to the university through participation in departmental management.
Institutional Service: Advise students academically, participate in school or University/Institutional meetings, and serve as a member of various committees.
Community Engagement: Demonstrate active community involvement (e.g., serving as a member of a Board of Governors).
Requirements and Qualifications
Primary Academic Qualifications: Must possess a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB), and a Master of Medicine (M.Med) in Child Health and Pediatrics.
Alternative Qualifications: MBChB with membership or fellowship from a recognized College of Pediatrics (e.g., Fellow College of Pediatrics or equivalent ECSAPАС).
Advanced Standing: A PhD in a relevant field will be considered an added advantage.
Professional Membership: Must be a registered member of relevant professional bodies.
Research Output: A minimum of one publication in a peer-reviewed journal will be an added advantage.
Experience: Applicants should have evidence of contribution to a University or Research Institution through management roles, committee participation, or student advising.
