The National Defence University - Kenya (NDU-K) is seeking a Senior Internal Auditor (Grade 8) to join its team. NDU-K, established under the Universities Education Act, 2012, offers specialized education in Defence and security. This role is crucial for maintaining the institutional integrity and financial oversight of the university, which is based at Lanet, Nakuru County.
Role Overview
The Senior Internal Auditor is responsible for executing audit assignments, developing audit strategies, and ensuring that the university's operations comply with internal policies and government regulations. This includes risk management, fraud prevention, and information security audits.
Duties and Responsibilities
Execute audit assignments and participate in developing audit strategies, policies, and procedures.
Prepare risk-based annual audit plans for the Audit & Integrity Committee.
Draft audit reports after each engagement and ensure recommendations are implemented by management.
Evaluate the progress and effectiveness of actions taken to address audit findings from both internal and external audits.
Provide quarterly audit reports to the Audit and Integrity Committee.
Contribute to corporate risk and audit planning.
Increase organizational awareness regarding fraud and regulatory risks.
Conduct investigations on reported or suspected cases of misconduct.
Execute information security audits across the organization, evaluating systems, procedures, and security controls.
Develop risk-focused examinations for IT systems and document audit processes in various computing environments.
Assess exposures resulting from ineffective control practices and interpret results against defined criteria.
Requirements for Appointment
Cumulative service period of six (6) years’ relevant work experience, three (3) of which should have been at the grade of Internal Auditor I or in a comparable position.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Economics, Business Administration, Business Management, or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
Certificate in Part II of the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Part II of the Certified Public Accountants (CPA) Examination, or Part II of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA).
Registration with a relevant professional body (where applicable).
Proficiency in computer applications.
Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance.
