The Senior Hydrologist is a key technical role within the Water Resources Authority (WRA), reporting to the Principal Hydrologist. This position is responsible for identifying, mapping, and developing surface water monitoring networks, alongside constructing, installing, and maintaining hydrological stations. The role involves extensive data collection, analysis, and the preparation of detailed hydrological reports to support national water resource management and equitable allocation.
Key Responsibilities
Data Management: Undertake data compilation, cleaning, and analysis; prepare technical reports and documentation regarding hydrological work.
Network Design: Design and review hydrological monitoring networks to ensure effective coverage across the country.
Project Evaluation: Evaluate hydrological reports and advise on the viability of water use projects for surface water allocation.
Hydrological Modelling: Perform hydrological modelling and scenario analysis; prepare technical reports on findings.
Spatial Analysis: Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for spatial analysis of surface water resources, creating geo-databases, maps, and reports.
Disaster Management: Prepare hydrological reports on water availability and extreme events such as floods and low flows; compile data for flood vulnerability mapping and seasonal outlooks.
Station Maintenance: Update rating equations for river monitoring stations and oversee station infrastructure.
Permit Review: Evaluate and review hydrological reports submitted for permit applications.
Qualifications and Requirements
Served for a minimum of six (6) years cumulative relevant work experience, with at least three (3) years at the level of Hydrologist I or in a comparable and relevant position in the public service.
Bachelor’s degree in Hydrology, Water and Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
Membership with a relevant professional body in good standing (where applicable).
Proficiency in computer applications.
Terms of Service and Remuneration
Successful candidates will serve for a probationary period of six (6) months, thereafter converting to Permanent and Pensionable Terms of Service. Remuneration will be subject to the existing terms approved by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
