About the Role
BURN is seeking a Senior Carbon Technical Manager (A.6.2 & Electric / Metered Cookstove Lead) to lead the technical management of its carbon portfolio. The successful candidate will ensure timely, compliant, and high-quality carbon credit issuance across multiple markets. The role involves driving Article 6.2 programmes, overseeing Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems, and collaborating cross-functionally to maintain data integrity, regulatory compliance, and strategic alignment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Portfolio Health: Take ownership of BURN's carbon portfolio (A.6.2, Electric, and metered projects), ensuring issuance volume delivery on time, on scope, and on budget.
- Team Leadership: Assign projects to Senior Carbon Technical Engineers (SCTEs) and Officers (SCTOs); set reporting targets and oversee junior technical teams and QA/QC functions.
- Compliance: Work with Carbon Policy and QA/QC teams to ensure project compliance with methodological and industry-approved integrity benchmarks.
- Contract Management: Lead Verification and Validation Body (VVB) contract management for the assigned project portfolio.
- Information Management: Manage technical documentation, provide responses on new methodologies to rating agencies, and update investors/press.
- Strategic Forecasting: Review emergent trends in the ICVCM and forecast technical threats and opportunities for corporate interests.
- Capacity Building: Oversee implementation of training programmes and conduct onboarding for senior staff on carbon technical matters.
- Stakeholder Relations: Develop and maintain relationships with VVBs and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) certification registries.
- SMT Reporting: Provide quarterly reports to Senior Management on portfolio health and initiative tracking.
Article 6.2 Bilateral Programme Leadership
- Lead technical management of Article 6.2 bilateral carbon programmes, including the KLIK Ghana EIC project.
- Serve as the primary technical liaison with Article 6.2 counterparties such as FOEN (Switzerland), Ghana Carbon Market Office (CMO), and Gold Standard.
- Manage the Corresponding Adjustment (CA) process, tracking authorization, issuance, transfer, and cancellation of ITMOs.
- Monitor UNFCCC COP guidance and translate requirements into project procedures.
EIC and Metered Cookstove Technical Management
- Interpret and apply EIC-specific methodology requirements (Gold Standard GS4GG).
- Lead the design and quality control of IoT-based and metered MRV systems, including Nexus platform data validation.
- Ensure KOBO survey instruments (Baseline, KPT, Usage) are MADD-compliant and updated.
- Manage the quarterly KPT and ex-post monitoring survey cycles, including statistical outlier analysis and CDM 95/5 reliability assessments.
Verification and Registry Operations
- Prepare VVB verification packages (monitoring reports, evidence dossiers, audit trails).
- Act as the primary technical contact during VVB audits, managing Communications, FARs, and CARs.
- Manage registry accounts for project uploads, fee payments, and ITMO issuance bookings.
Data Quality and Cross-Functional Coordination
- Enforce SOPs and QA/QC plans for MRV processes.
- Collaborate with Data & Analytics (DnA) to ensure database records meet verification requirements.
- Coordinate with Carbon Excellence and Customer Experience teams on e-waste compliance, grievance mechanisms, and ISO 14001 certification.
Skills and Experience
- Minimum 5 years experience in voluntary or compliance carbon markets.
- Expertise in MRV, monitoring report preparation, and VVB verification management.
- Direct experience with Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement (ITMO authorization, CA processes).
- Strong working knowledge of Gold Standard methodology for electric or metered cookstove programmes.
- End-to-end ownership of at least 3 certified projects within the last 36 months.
- Experience managing at least 1 Programme of Activities (PoA) as lead technical advisor.
- Proficiency in statistical methods for IoT-based and metered MRV (stratified sampling, CDM reliability).
- Minimum 2 years experience managing a team of 5–15 technical professionals.
- Knowledge of Switzerland–Ghana bilateral agreement framework (KLIK / FOEN).
