The Senior Associate - Policy and Coordination at the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is responsible for strengthening cooperation between IOM and various stakeholders, including the Government of Kenya, the UN, and civil society, to support programme development and implementation. This role involves assisting in institutional relations, gathering policy-related information, supporting capacity-building initiatives, and contributing to the planning and reporting of international and national migration frameworks.
Responsibilities
- Stakeholder Cooperation: Contribute to strengthening cooperation between IOM and all relevant stakeholders for programme development and implementation in Kenya.
- Institutional Relations: Assist in strengthening institutional relations with the Government, UN, and civil society, providing support on policy and coordination-related matters.
- Government Engagement: Assist with receiving Government inputs, involvement, and commitment to migration-related initiatives involving Kenya.
- Policy and Research: Support the gathering and presentation of information on policies and migration-related frameworks, tools, and research reports, including developing policy briefs.
- Capacity Building: Support capacity-building initiatives relevant to migration-related policies, frameworks, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and other relevant curricula.
- Institutional Liaison: Assist in strengthening relations with all Government of Kenya entities and support relevant policy, coordination, and liaison matters.
- UN Framework Support: Support the planning, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of UN frameworks, such as the Kenya United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF), in coordination with relevant IOM Kenya Units.
- Global Frameworks: Support the Government and stakeholders in national implementation, reporting, and monitoring of the Global Compact for Migration (GCM) and Agenda 2030.
- Strategic Dialogue: Provide support in facilitating strategic debate and joint positions on migration among partners in Kenya to improve migration governance.
- Ad-hoc Support: Provide policy and liaison support to all IOM entities in Kenya, including the Regional Office for East, Horn, and Southern Africa, and IOM Somalia.
- Documentation: Monitor, report, and document relevant activities in appropriate platforms.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education:
- High School Diploma with training in Political Sciences, Social Sciences, International Relations, Public Relations, or a related field with 6 years of relevant experience.
- OR a University degree in Political Sciences, Social Sciences, International Relations, Public Relations, or a related field from an accredited institution with 4 years of relevant professional experience.
- Professional Experience:
- Minimum 4 years of experience as a government liaison, preferably within the UN, International Organizations, or the NGO sector.
- Experience working with high-level government officials and embassies.
- Demonstrated skills in developing networks with the Government of Kenya and the international community.
