The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is an operational arm of the United Nations, dedicated to implementing projects for the UN System, international financial institutions, governments, and other partners in the aid world. Currently, UNOPS is seeking a Senior Associate Construction Management Engineer to support infrastructure and construction projects in Nairobi.
Role Overview
The Senior Associate Construction Management Engineer assists in overseeing day-to-day site operations, ensuring adherence to project specifications, timelines, and quality standards. The role involves technical site supervision, monitoring progress, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
Construction Management and Site Supervision
Assist in overseeing day-to-day site operations and monitoring work progress against approved plans and Bills of Quantity (BoQs).
Verify compliance with contract documents, technical drawings, and safety/environmental standards.
Conduct site inspections and prepare detailed progress, quality, and HSSE reports.
Supervise contractors, assess completed work, and recommend payments.
Review and verify variation orders for accuracy and budget compliance.
Support risk assessments and enforce HSSE compliance on-site.
Lead or participate in site meetings and proactively address construction issues.
Technical Documentation and Quality Assurance
Coordinate technical documentation, drawings, and specifications.
Contribute to developing work plans and schedules.
Draft and review technical reports, site diaries, and Interim Payment Certificates (IPCs).
Conduct material checks and verify contractor quality control procedures.
Monitoring and Reporting
Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports detailing financial and physical performance.
Maintain risk and issue registers with proposed mitigation measures.
Support bid evaluations and preparation of tender documentation.
Stakeholder Coordination and Knowledge Sharing
Maintain communication with contractors, local authorities, and partners.
Guide and mentor junior engineers and site personnel.
Support training sessions and participate in knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Requirements
Education: Secondary school (or equivalent) with 7 years of relevant experience OR a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline with 3 years of relevant experience.
Experience: Proven experience in building construction, site supervision, or infrastructure project management is required.
Technical Skills: Experience in quality control, monitoring, and reporting is required. Proficiency in MS Office, G-Suite, and web-based management systems is essential.
Certifications: A recognized professional certification (e.g., membership in an engineering association) is desirable.
