The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. This role focuses on maintaining and updating risk management and compliance frameworks within the Kenya Country Office (CO), ensuring that all operations align with NRC global policies and donor requirements.
Job Responsibilities
- Risk Management: Maintaining and updating risk management and compliance-related CO Risk Register, Waiver Register, Conflict of Interest Register, and Recommendations Tracker. Facilitate the Tri-Annual Reporting process on the Risk Register and follow up on actions/feedback.
- Audit Coordination: Support the CO’s focal point for audits in the coordination of work among different sections/units to respond to external audits initiated by institutional donors and facilitate follow-up of audit recommendations.
- Compliance Guidance: Provide guidance on compliance with NRC policies and procedures, handbooks, and guidelines; propose new initiatives to bridge gaps and implement properly.
- Policy Development: Support the development of SOPs and policies for the department in line with NRC directions and donor requirements.
- Reporting: Ensure all departments' adherence to NRC policies and produce regular KPI reports and recommendations.
- Data Protection & Ethics: Promote data protection compliant practices and provide training on anti-corruption, data protection, conflict of interest, and legal/complaints management.
- Investigations: Conduct thorough internal investigations into alleged misconduct or policy violations, including evidence collection and witness interviews.
- Capacity Building: Assist Country Management in reviewing recommendations from audits and evaluations, and conduct trainings on internal controls and fraud detection.
- Contract Review: Assist departments/units in providing feedback on cross-cutting topics during contract revisions.
Qualifications and Experience
- A degree in Economics, Administration, or a relevant field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in compliance, auditing, or risk management functions OR minimum 4 years of experience in coordinator positions within the humanitarian sector.
- Knowledge and skills in the international regulatory context applicable for INGOs.
- Knowledge and skills in safeguarding, accountability to affected populations, or Code of Conduct matters.
- Experience in international donor guidelines.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications.
- Fluency in both Kiswahili and English (written and verbal).
