Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a State Corporation established as a national body responsible for carrying out health research in Kenya. We are seeking to recruit qualified individuals for the position of Research Officer (Bioscience) for two available posts based in Kilifi or Nairobi.\n\n### Role Overview\nThe Research Officer will be responsible for coordinating study data and sample collection, conducting advanced data analysis, and leading laboratory experiments including DNA/RNA extraction and sequencing. The role involves high-level scientific output, mentorship, and project management to ensure research goals are met within ethical and regulatory frameworks.\n\n### Key Responsibilities\n- Coordinate the collection, processing, compilation, verification, and storage of study data or samples in line with Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) and study protocols.\n- Conduct data analysis and interpretation of study samples to identify insights, synthesizing results through statistical summaries and data visualization techniques.\n- Lead and support troubleshooting of new laboratory assays and ensure laboratory experiments (DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR, and sequencing) are conducted as per SOPs.\n- Contribute to report writing, dissemination, and publishing of research work in reputable scientific journals and policy briefs.\n- Network and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project quality and timely completion.\n- Provide mentorship and training to other researchers, students, and interns by designing mentorship plans and delivering training sessions.\n- Supervise the study team, coordinating research and operations, and assisting in HR management tasks.\n- Ensure full compliance with ethical and research governance protocols, policies, and regulatory requirements.\n- Support the Principal Investigator in identifying funding opportunities and developing research grant proposals.\n\n### Vacancy Requirements\n- Minimum Master’s Degree in Biological Sciences, Bioinformatics, or any other relevant field from a recognized university (Mandatory).\n- Minimum Three (3) Years of experience in Genomics and Bioinformatics at a reputable research institution (Mandatory).\n- Demonstrated experience in capacity building and the use of technology in health research, specifically R and other bioinformatics software (Mandatory).\n- High levels of integrity and confidentiality (Mandatory).\n- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills (Mandatory).\n- Ability to work with diverse, multidisciplinary teams and build strong collaborator relationships (Mandatory).\n- Excellent analytical skills and ability to deliver quality outputs within strict timelines (Mandatory).\n- Strong team coordination and decision-making skills (Mandatory).\n\n### How to Apply\nInterested and qualified candidates should apply via the KEMRI e-recruitment portal at .
