The Renal Nurse role is dedicated to delivering safe, effective, and specialized renal nursing care by managing hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients. The primary focus is on ensuring clinical stability, adherence to infection prevention protocols, and achieving optimal patient outcomes. This role operates within clinical governance frameworks including Ministry of Health regulations, SafeCare, and ISO standards, aligning with hospital strategic objectives regarding quality of care, patient safety, and operational efficiency.\n\n### Key Responsibilities\n- Ensure the safe delivery of hemodialysis and/or peritoneal dialysis by preparing, initiating, monitoring, and completing sessions in accordance with treatment plans and clinical protocols.\n- Continuously monitor patient vitals and clinical status before, during, and after dialysis; promptly identify and manage complications such as hypotension, cramps, and disequilibrium syndrome.\n- Safely operate and troubleshoot dialysis machines and related equipment to maintain treatment accuracy.\n- Adhere strictly to IPC protocols during dialysis procedures, vascular access handling, and equipment usage.\n- Educate patients and families on renal disease management, dietary restrictions, fluid control, and medication adherence.\n- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of dialysis sessions, patient progress, and incidents.\n- Coordinate with nephrologists, dieticians, and other healthcare professionals for comprehensive care.\n- Participate in renal audits and quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery.\n- Handle and account for dialysis consumables to prevent wastage.\n- Promptly report and escalate clinical and operational incidents in accordance with protocols.\n- Support emergency renal interventions and critical care situations within the unit.\n\n### Strategic Program Responsibilities\n- Support implementation of hospital strategic priorities by ensuring excellence in renal care delivery, patient safety, and clinical outcomes.\n- Ensure delivery of effective dialysis care that improves patient stability and recovery outcomes.\n- Support operational efficiency and seamless service flow to reduce delays.\n\n### Requirements\n- Diploma or Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Nursing (KRCHN / BScN)\n- Post-basic training or certification in Renal Nursing / Dialysis Nursing (Mandatory)\n- Valid Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) practicing license\n- Minimum 2\u20133 years\u2019 experience in a dialysis/renal unit\n- Registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK)\n- ACLS and BLS Certification.
