WTS Energy is seeking a Project Manager Assistant to support the Project Director in managing complex development programs focused on sustainable natural resources management, climate finance, and carbon credit initiatives. The successful candidate will coordinate a multidisciplinary team including civil engineers, agronomists, and hydrologists to implement soil erosion and runoff reduction measures while exploring funding opportunities and partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Coordination: Assist and supervise baseline surveys, selection of beneficiaries, planning, and data collection. Cooperate daily with the Project Director and supervise a multidisciplinary team and various contractors.
- Research & Analysis: Conduct in-depth research on climate finance mechanisms, funding opportunities, and the legal framework for carbon credits in Kenya.
- Technical Support: Provide technical guidance to project teams in developing strategies for implementation in coordination with partners like GIZ.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with government agencies, donors, carbon credit registries, and financial institutions to implement environmental measures and explore funding opportunities.
- Certification & Compliance: Assist in the preparation and submission of carbon credit certification processes, ensuring compliance with international standards.
- Monitoring & Evaluation: Evaluate financial performance of beneficiaries and identify sustainable resource management strategies such as fuelwood planting and rotational grazing.
- Capacity Building: Support training activities for project staff and local partners on natural resource management and carbon trade methodologies.
- Documentation: Contribute to best practices documentation and success stories related to rangeland management, forestry, and agroforestry.
Key Qualifications and Skills
- Education: BSc or advanced degree in finance, economics, environmental management, agriculture, engineering, or related fields.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in managing complex development programs in developing countries.
- Project Management: Strong skills in work planning, scheduling, and resource coordination.
- Leadership: Proven ability to supervise field teams and providing technical guidance to implementing partners.
- Stakeholder Management: Experience engaging with local communities, government institutions, and international organizations.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to develop monitoring tools, analyze progress, and produce high-quality technical and management reports.
- Financial Literacy: Good understanding of budgeting and financial monitoring.
- Risk Management: Strong problem-solving abilities with the capacity to anticipate and mitigate operational challenges.
- Specialized Knowledge: Demonstrated experience in managing natural resources (soil, water, forestry, agroforestry) projects is considered a significant advantage.
