The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking an Intern to support the International Environmental Technology Centre (IETC). Under the direct supervision of the IETC Officer, the intern will contribute to research, policy analysis, and administrative tasks related to global waste management and the circular economy. This role involves examining the social, economic, and environmental dimensions of waste, including the informal sector and gender aspects.
Key Responsibilities
Research and summarize scientific information on waste-related issues, including the informal sector, gender aspects, and waste-based job creation.
Analyze national waste management strategies and policies through lenses such as circular economy and climate change linkages.
Draft policy analyses and reports based on scientific research.
Provide logistical support for meetings, including notetaking and managing participant travel.
Map out business opportunities and technology-based innovations in waste management and recycling.
Assist in drafting project documents and developing technical documentation or tools.
Contribute to knowledge-sharing platforms and the visualization of waste management data.
Draft educational outreach materials and assist in developing networks of waste management institutions.
Support global or regional waste management assessment processes.
Qualifications and Requirements
To be eligible for the internship, applicants must meet one of the following:
Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or higher).
Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level).
Have recently graduated with a university degree and be able to commence the internship within one year of graduation.
Preferred Skills and Experience
Preferred Fields of Study: Science, Environmental Management, Policymaking, Climate Change, Resource Studies, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or Information/Knowledge Management.
Software Proficiency: Good knowledge of MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
Communication: Strong drafting and analytical skills for reporting and research.
