This consultancy role with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) focuses on the intersection of Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) and the private sector. The successful candidate will map the roles of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and other local private sector actors in the use of NbS, contributing to the 'Decent Work in NbS' report.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Design and Inception: Map roles for MSMEs and local private sector actors in NbS.
- Research and Literature Review: Identify foundational literature, conduct reviews on NbS applications, and provide evidence on employment implications and decent work dimensions.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Identify key informants, develop interview guides, and conduct at least 20 semi-structured interviews with stakeholders from public/private sectors and civil society.
- Knowledge Synthesis: Identify knowledge gaps and draft inputs for Chapter 2 of the project report.
- Presentation: Present key findings and insights to the Decent Work in NbS report project team.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Education: Post Graduate Degree (Masters level or above) in International Affairs, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Governance, Economics, Social Science, or a related field. A first-level university degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted.
- Research Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of research experience in nature-based solutions, sustainable development policies, private sector engagement, or job creation/decent work.
- Analytical Skills: Proven experience in qualitative analysis, literature reviews, and conducting stakeholder interviews.
- Knowledge Products: Experience in developing high-quality knowledge products.
- Expertise (Desirable): Local private sector development, the nature economy, and decent work related policies.
- Global Context (Desirable): Experience working in an international, multi-cultural setting.
