Job Description
As the Assistant Manager for Group Health, Safety, Environment & Internal Sustainability, you will provide strategic leadership in supporting the Health, Safety, Environmental, and Internal Sustainability scope for Equity Group Holdings Plc. You will be responsible for ensuring the highest health and safety standards to maintain a conducive, safe, and healthy working environment for Group staff, customers, visitors, and contractors/suppliers. This role focuses on ensuring compliance with statutory legislation and regulations governing occupational health and safety, environmental management, and Group internal sustainability.
Key Deliverables
Assist the Group in complying with current occupational, safety, and health legislation and regulations with the objective of ensuring that all reasonable and proper measures are taken to protect the safety, health, and environment of employees, customers, contractors, suppliers, and visitors.
Oversee internal and external safety and health audits, risk assessments, fire audits, and environmental audits, keeping records of inspections’ findings and producing reports. Ensure all gaps identified are timely closed out.
Ensure all safe systems of work and Group HSE procedures are implemented, including permits to work.
Support the implementation and monitoring of the Group’s Occupational Safety Health, Environment, and Fire safety Policy, Programs, and Procedures.
Provide oversight of HSE & internal sustainability within Equity Group Holdings Plc and act as an alternate contact for staff and customers to address concerns.
Coordinate the training of personnel in areas of occupational health and safety, first aid, fire safety, accident prevention, reporting, and investigation.
Develop and implement action plans to address health and safety concerns raised in statutory and routine audits.
Coordinate and ensure compliance with Group HSE policy and statutory regulations by contractors engaged by the Group.
Support the preparation and timely implementation of Occupational, Safety, Health, and Environment strategies.
Work with respective subsidiaries’ Safety and Health managers and committees to investigate and report all serious/critical incidents and accidents.
Carry out specialist tasks, including system audits, task-based risk assessments, and premises inspections.
Ensure the Group HSE Manager is kept appraised of any key HSE issues across all entities.
Coordinate with Facilities/Real estate teams to ensure closure of all identified HSE audit issues and non-conformances.
Prepare monthly and quarterly Group HSE reports for management review.
Assist employees in emergency preparedness and response.
Ensure employees are inducted according to HSE-FS policies and ensure contractor/supplier obligations are adhered to.
Maintain auditable trails and statistics regarding compliance.
Report and document areas requiring Dispensation, Waivers & Breaches (DWB) regarding the HSE Policy.
Visit business facilities to conduct health and safety inspections and assessments.
Manage departmental annual budget preparation, monitoring, and controlling.
Drive and support cost management initiatives and track outcomes.
Entrench the Group culture in daily operations.
Requirements
Degree, Postgraduate, or Masters degree in the fields of Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management, Engineering, or Sustainability.
A minimum of 4-6 years’ experience in the management and coordination of Occupational Health, Safety, Environmental Management, and Sustainability.
NEBOSH IGC or a Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health or sustainability-related courses is an added advantage.
