Job Description
The Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) is seeking a dedicated intern to support its various offices and thematic areas. The intern will contribute to administrative, financial, programmatic, communication, legal, and field support tasks. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience in human rights advocacy and organizational operations while working alongside experienced team members to drive KHRC's strategic direction.
Duties and Responsibilities
Thematic Support: Assist in implementing the organization's operational plan across various thematic areas as directed by Program Managers.
Fieldwork & Mobilization: Participate in fieldwork activities, including community mobilization, facilitation, and training.
Legal Research & Analysis: Support the legal affairs department by conducting research, preparing legal documents, and analyzing policy and legislative bills.
Reporting & Documentation: Review and edit consultant reports, draft policy briefs, and conduct desktop research to develop quality reports on key issues related to KHRC's work.
Media & Policy Monitoring: Monitor media reports and generate bi-monthly updates, while also analyzing relevant bills and providing recommendations.
Event Coordination: Organize training sessions, conferences, or meetings and generate comprehensive reports for these events.
Logistical Support: Prepare and pack materials for fieldwork and distribution as directed by the Program Manager or Advisor.
General Administration: Undertake administrative tasks and any other duties assigned by the internship committee or managers.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: A first degree in a discipline related to Law, Social Sciences, or human rights-related fields, or a recent graduate who has completed coursework and is awaiting graduation.
Legal Specialization: Applicants for the Legal thematic area must be students who have finished their 4th year of study in Law or those who have completed the Kenya School of Law (KSL) program and are awaiting admission to the bar.
Skills: Strong planning and organization skills with efficient work methods.
Attributes: Ability to work independently and as part of a team, empathetic nature, and a passionate commitment to human rights.
Work Ethic: Proactive, attentive to detail, capable of meeting deadlines under pressure, and a willingness to learn.
