KCA University (KCAU) is seeking to recruit qualified and experienced academic staff for the positions of Professor, Associate Professor, Senior Lecturer, and Lecturer in the Department of Kiswahili. The successful candidates will be responsible for building a strong academic culture of excellence, delivering high-quality instruction at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and contributing to the advancement of knowledge through research and scholarly activities.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning: Facilitate learning through lectures, seminars, workshops, and tutorials for Kiswahili programs as assigned by the Department Chair (COD).
Curriculum Development: Participate in the planning, development, and implementation of high-quality curricula for both undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
Research & Publications: Lead research teams, write research proposals to attract funding, and produce publications in reputable refereed journals.
Postgraduate Supervision: Supervise and mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students in their research work and academic progress.
Academic Leadership: Provide leadership within the department by mentoring junior faculty and guiding early-career researchers (specifically for senior ranks).
Institutional Service: Serve on university committees, boards, and the senate; contribute to policy formulation and university-wide decision-making.
Assessment: Develop, administer, and mark examinations, assignments, and continuous assessments, ensuring timely entry of records into management systems.
Outreach & Partnerships: Foster consultancy, partnerships, and outreach initiatives to enhance the University’s visibility and impact.
Requirements by Rank
Professor
An earned PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in Kiswahili from an accredited university.
Minimum 3 years of continuous teaching experience as an Associate Professor.
At least 6 publications in reputable refereed journals since last promotion.
Supervision of at least 3 Master’s and 2 PhD students to completion since last appointment.
Track record of attracting research funding (at least as a Co-PI in two projects).
Membership in good standing with a relevant professional body.
Associate Professor
An earned PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in Kiswahili from an accredited university.
Minimum 3 years of continuous teaching experience as a Senior Lecturer.
At least 5 publications in reputable refereed journals since last promotion.
Supervision of at least 3 Master’s and 1 PhD student to completion since last appointment.
Track record of attracting research funding in at least two projects.
Membership in good standing with a relevant professional body.
Senior Lecturer
An earned PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in Kiswahili from an accredited university.
Minimum 3 years of teaching experience as a Lecturer OR 6 years of research/industry experience.
At least 4 publications in reputable refereed journals since last promotion.
Supervision of at least 3 Master’s students to completion.
Track record of attracting research funding in at least one project.
Membership in good standing with a relevant professional body.
Lecturer
An earned PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in Kiswahili from an accredited university.
Minimum 3 years of teaching experience at the university level, in research, or in industry.
Minimum of 2 publications in reputable refereed scholarly journals.
Membership in good standing with a relevant professional body.
