The Production Operator – Assembly is responsible for the efficient operation of machines within the assembly line, ensuring production targets are met while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. The role involves not only operating equipment but also performing autonomous maintenance, monitoring output for defects, and maintaining accurate production records.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Operation & Testing: Competently perform machine operation functions and test equipment before production begins to ensure it is in good condition.
Autonomous Maintenance: Perform daily activities such as cleaning, checking, lubricating, and tightening to prevent equipment deterioration. Record the results of daily inspections in the provided machine check sheets.
Production Accounting: Account for shift production by ensuring all products are weighed and properly recorded. Aim for specific targets (e.g., 45k or 75% of the machine's target) during local/fine points production.
Data Management: Real-time updating of the Production Data Sheet (PDS) to accurately capture all downtime, scrap, and production figures.
Monitoring & Diagnosis: Monitor machines during production for optimum running and perform periodic inspections or equipment diagnosis to measure deterioration.
Component Management: Load components into the machine hoppers as required and ensure the correct components are used without fail to avoid mix-ups.
Reporting: Promptly report any machine malfunctions to the process optimizer/technician and raise works order requests.
Quality Control: Ensure that the allocated machine is producing quality products by managing periodic checks on output. Liaise with the Process Optimizer/Q.C Inspector in case of any off-spec components.
Waste Management: Avoid generation of waste by doing things right the first time. Any unavoidable waste must be segregated, booked in the PDS, and placed in the respective crates.
Safety & Compliance: Strictly adhere to laid-down safe working procedures, use all safety gears/PPEs provided, and comply with all OHS/EHS stipulated rules and regulations.
Housekeeping: Adhere to Good Housekeeping and defined 5S practices at all times.
Handovers: Conduct smooth and meaningful handovers to the incoming machine operator at the workstation, updating all relevant documents like PDS and machine check sheets.

Education: Minimum KCSE D+ and a certificate in Engineering or a production-related field.
Additional Qualification: A Diploma in any production-related field is an added advantage.
Experience: At least 3 years of experience as an operator.
Regulatory Knowledge: Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal health and safety regulations.
