The Process Technician plays a key role in improving assembly line productivity through process engineering activities. The position involves developing and refining assembly process work instructions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), identifying requirements for new processes and equipment, resolving operational issues, maintaining process documentation, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. The role also includes investigating smartphone defects to promote high-quality outcomes and implementing evidence-based process improvements.
Key Responsibilities
Line Studies: Conduct line balancing and station cycle time studies for each model to assess hourly output efficiency, and provide reports and recommendations to management.
Defect Analysis: Review defective smartphones on the production floor and recommend actions to reduce in-line product defect rates.
Assembly Improvement: Enhance assembly line productivity by developing procedures and work instructions that eliminate inefficiencies.
Quality Collaboration: Partner with the Quality team to identify product quality concerns and work with suppliers on feedback and corrective action plans.
Inspections: Coordinate and monitor First Article Inspections (FAI) to ensure equipment, personnel, and processes are ready before production begins.
New Product Introduction (NPI): Assist with the NPI process by coordinating activities across assembly functions and preparing production operators for new model/SKU launches.
SOP Maintenance: Work closely with the Process Engineer to develop, document, review, improve, and maintain compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), assembly work instructions, work methods, and other operational procedures, including line shutdown processes.
Training: Facilitate training for production operators on work methods, SOPs, and Process Work Instructions (PWIs).
Reporting: Prepare reports, including NPI reports, line efficiency reports, root cause investigation reports, and production incident reports.
Knowledge Base: Develop and maintain smartphone troubleshooting and repair documentation to build a knowledge base for defect investigation, troubleshooting, and repair processes.
Optimization: Contribute to production process optimization, process improvements, and production layout planning.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Instrumentation and Control Engineering, or a related field.
Technical Knowledge: Knowledge of process simulation techniques and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Teamwork: The ability to work effectively with local and global teams to transfer manufacturing processes to Kenya.
Schematics: The ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics.
Tooling: The ability to design jigs and fixtures that improve process efficiency.
Problem Solving: Experience conducting root cause investigations using recognized problem-solving methodologies.
IT Skills: Proficiency in computer applications, new systems, and diagnosing common computer-related issues.
Attributes: Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and technical capabilities with excellent attention to detail.
Adaptability: The ability to learn quickly and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Methodologies: Knowledge of Kaizen and 6S methodologies.
