Role Overview
The Plating/Laboratory Chemist is responsible for planning, implementing, maintaining, and managing procedures to optimize the electroplating process. The role involves managing the laboratory environment, maintaining chemical baths, providing technical advice on chemicals and laboratory or electroplating equipment, and overseeing chemical sourcing. The position reports to the Head Supply Chain Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Forecast, plan, implement, and control plating schedules for jobs, reviewing and adjusting as necessary.
- Execute plating processes and ensure the consistent availability of process water through the timely operation of reverse osmosis water treatment systems.
- Balance quality, productivity, cost, safety, and morale to achieve positive results in all production areas.
- Make decisions regarding equipment usage, maintenance, and modification; organize repairs and routine maintenance for plating equipment.
- Collaborate with other departmental heads to implement company policies and goals.
- Monitor product quality standards to ensure adherence to specifications.
- Implement and adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs) for plating operations and chemical analysis.
- Conduct chemical analysis via volumetric methods, alongside density, pH, and conductivity tests.
- Perform Hull cell tests and calibrate laboratory equipment regularly.
- Prepare and maintain timely plating reports and comprehensive laboratory documentation.
- Track day-to-day plating costs to ensure budget efficiency.
Requirements and Qualifications
- A Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Chemistry, Science, or Engineering.
- A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in electrolysis or electroplating processes.
- Strong analytical skills and excellent communication abilities.
