The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) is seeking a Principal Accountant. This role is responsible for coordinating the development, implementation, and review of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure the efficient and effective management of the Authority's funds. The successful candidate will oversee the fiscal integrity of the organization, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and internal standards.
Responsibilities
Coordinating the development, implementation, and/or review of accounting policies and procedures.
Establishing and maintaining robust internal controls for the management of Authority funds.
Overseeing the preparation of financial statements and audit processes.
Ensuring compliance with legal and statutory financial regulations.
Managing and mentoring accounting staff within the department.
Monitoring and reporting on the Authority's financial performance.
Requirements
A cumulative service period of nine (9) years in the accounting field.
At least three (3) of those years must have been at the grade of Senior Accountant (IPOA 7) or an equivalent senior position.
Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce (Accounting/Finance option), Business Administration (Accounting option), or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
Must be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K) or equivalent.
Completion of a management course lasting at least four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
Active membership with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).
High proficiency in Computer Applications, specifically computerized accounting packages.
Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in previous work performance and results.
