About the Role
As a PP1 Apprentice Teacher, you will be responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for young learners. You will work closely with school leadership and parents to ensure each child's social, physical, and emotional needs are met while delivering the school's curriculum effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Environment & Safety: Provide a safe and secure environment for children to feel comfortable. Assimilate arriving children to the school environment by greeting them, helping them remove outerwear, and selecting activities of interest.
Instructional Planning: Develop schemes of work and lesson plans in line with the school curriculum. Schedule and facilitate stimulating learning activities for the children.
Resource Preparation: Prepare teaching aids to facilitate children's learning. Devise games and activities, provide playing equipment, and ensure that playing facilities and equipment are clean and safe.
Supervision: Supervise children as they learn and play. Assist in bus loading and unloading procedures.
Assessment & Reporting: Observe and evaluate each child’s progress and maintain records/reports of development. Provide written reports to the Principal, other school leaders, and parents.
Classroom Management: Establish and enforce rules for behavior, policies, and procedures to maintain order among students. Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guests, or other experiential activities.
Professional Development: Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence.
Skills and Qualifications
Education: Degree in Education or a Diploma in Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE).
Certification: Must have valid TSC certification.
Experience: 1 - 2 years of teaching experience is required.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Soft Skills: Must be flexible, open to change, and able to handle uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity. Proactive problem-solving skills are essential.
