The overall purpose of this job is to provide support and facilitation by receiving prescriptions, analysing them, and dispensing medication to patients in line with established protocols.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in filling, processing, and dispensing medications to patients in line with safety standards to ensure quality care.
Assist in maintaining the drug inventory through inventory control practices.
Initiate the procurement process for medications.
Keep track of and implement control measures for drugs, ensuring a prescription accompanies all drug requests.
Participate in Continuous Medical Education (CME) to stay informed.
Collaborate with the regulatory body (Pharmacy and Poisons Board) on pharmacovigilance for information on adverse effects/reactions to prescription drugs.
Prepare monthly reports on sales, expenses, breakages, and expiries.
Ensure proper stock management, including management of expired drugs and supplies, reorder levels, obsolete items, stock movement, stock outs, and returns.
Perform any other responsibilities that may be assigned by the supervisor.
External Relationships: Patients, other hospitals, suppliers
Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications Required
Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution.
Must be registered with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Kenya and hold a valid practicing license.
Membership in the Kenya Pharmaceutical Association is an added advantage.
Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, preferably in a hospital environment.
