Job Description
Job Purpose
The overall purpose of this job is to utilize the specialist orthopedic surgical expertise knowledge and techniques to diagnose and treat patients.
Duties and Responsibilities
Strategy, Policy, and Processes Implementation: Providing leadership and direction in the development and implementation of effective Orthopaedic Surgery clinical policies and procedures.
Quality Assurance: Provides guidance and participates in the development and implementation of quality assessment plans and ensuring continuous improvement of the Orthopaedic Surgery department services. Ensure appropriate documentation is completed and maintained.
Patient Care: Carry out patient assessment, treatment, and stabilisation and other specialised procedures in order to provide curative services in line with established protocols and promote patient centricity including providing clinical support during emergencies including resuscitation, admission, discharge or referral to the appropriate consultants and units.
Clinical Quality: Contribute to the departmental clinical quality assurance system, including regular clinical audit, review of patient care (length of patient stay, mortality and morbidity reviews, audit, regular clinical meetings) to ensure quality of services provided to patients.
Risk Management: Lead in clinical audit and proactive risk management and facilitate production of all data/information required for same in accordance with regulatory, statutory and corporate policies and procedures.
Research and Development: Actively involved in a wide range of research and development initiative areas and create awareness of the hospital as having research programs that are at the forefront of science in patient care.
Quality and Patient Safety: Oversight of quality and patient safety by assisting in planning and setting priorities for Orthopaedic Surgery department through quality improvement and patient safety activities and reviewing clinical related patient complaints and ensure a satisfactory resolution thereof with proper corrective and preventive action.
Collaboration: Work with the established consultants to ensure equitable provision of Orthopaedic Surgery services across the whole of the hospital. This will include collaborative working, mutual cover for leave, and ensuring adherence to principles of clinical governance.
Learning and Development: Support learning and development initiatives by identifying skills gaps and providing learning and development opportunities for the medical and nursing staff. Plan and direct research and development appropriate to the facility.
Qualifications and Requirements
Master of Surgery in Orthopedic Surgery.
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.
Subspeciality recognition is an added advantage.
Must have valid membership and hold a valid practicing license in the relevant field from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
A minimum of 7 years’ experience in a similar position.
Leadership experience is an added advantage.
