Job Description
Umma University is an established university in Kenya accredited by the Commission for University Education. The university is seeking a qualified Part-time Lecturer in Arabic Language and Islamic Studies to deliver course instruction, perform academic research, and support student mentorship.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum of 3 publication points, of which at least two (2) are in refereed journal papers.
Must have supervised at least three (3) undergraduate students to completion as a lecturer.
Qualify to register for PhD in the relevant area of specialization.
Minimum qualification of BA/BSc/HND or equivalent degree in Arabic Language, Islamic Studies, or a relevant field.
Job Responsibilities
Student Teaching and Evaluation
Teaching/lecturing students in Arabic Language and Islamic Studies.
Setting, moderating exams, administering tests, and giving feedback to the university and students according to university guidelines.
Ensure students have completed coursework as per university guidelines.
Research and Scholarship
Develop proposals for grants and conduct academic research.
Supervise student project/research work.
Participate in seminars and workshops to disseminate research output.
Present evidence-based studies in workshops, seminars, and academic conferences.
Community Outreach
Organize community activities with students in line with university guidelines.
Evaluate community activities with students and support partnerships with the community in line with university policy.
Liaison and Networking
Participate in departmental meetings, conferences, and other events within and outside the university.
Assist in securing placements for students.
Mentorship and Pastoral Care
Mentor students and new colleagues in the department.
Take students on mentorship trips.
Guide and advise weak students.
Provide pastoral care by supporting individual student needs, acting as a personal tutor, and referring them where necessary.
Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
