Umma University is an established university in Kenya accredited by the Commission for University Education. The University is seeking a qualified Lecturer in Literature and English to join its academic team in Nairobi. The successful candidate will deliver lectures, conduct scholarly research, contribute to curriculum development, and mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning: Deliver lectures, tutorials, and seminars at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; prepare course outlines, teaching materials, and assessment tools.
Teaching Administration: Prepare and deliver academic materials in accordance with approved curricula; conduct assessments including examinations and coursework evaluations.
Student Support & Supervision: Provide academic advising and mentorship to students; support student research and academic development; supervise undergraduate research projects and assist in postgraduate supervision.
Research and Scholarly Activities: Conduct research contributing to the advancement of knowledge; publish scholarly work in peer-reviewed academic journals; participate in research projects and academic conferences.
Curriculum Development: Participate in the development and review of academic curricula; contribute to the improvement of teaching methodologies.
Academic Governance & Engagement: Participate in departmental meetings and academic committees; engage with industry and professional bodies.
Resource Management & Grant Applications: Utilize teaching facilities including lecture rooms, laboratories, and academic equipment; participate in research grant applications and research funding initiatives.
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor's degree (BA/BSc/HND) or equivalent qualification in English, Literature, or a relevant academic discipline.
Strong commitment to academic excellence, teaching, and scholarly research.
