Role Overview\nThe primary goal of operating room coordination is to ensure prompt, safe, and effective care of surgical patients. The Charge Nurse-Theatre is accountable in an oversight capacity for the effective delivery of competent, compassionate, and efficient care for the patient undergoing anesthesia, surgery, procedures, and recovery.\n\n### Main Duties & Responsibilities\n\nUnit Leadership\n* Serve as a role model for the nursing profession, exercising professionalism and providing mentorship to staff and student nurses.\n* Ensure patients are treated with dignity, privacy, and respect, encouraging their involvement in their care.\n* Attend Administrative, Charge Nurse, and Procedure committees as required.\n* Oversee nursing activities in operating rooms and manage staff, including the application of hospital disciplinary procedures when necessary.\n* Safeguard confidential hospital and patient information.\n* Manage theatre efficiency to ensure timely care for surgical patients and seamless booking of elective cases.\n* Ensure availability and efficient use of operating room utilities for quality service delivery and profitability.\n\nPolicies and Standards\n* Implement nursing care standards to continuously improve quality and exceed patient expectations.\n* Participate in audits and continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives.\n* Ensure surgical patients are seen the day before surgery and that information is shared with multidisciplinary teams.\n* Adhere to clinical policies such as daily crash cart checks, equipment calibration, and infection control protocols.\n* Uphold statutory regulations and hospital standards for nursing care as required by Kenyan law and the nursing profession.\n* Maintain accurate documentation and records for legal and quality purposes.\n\nPatient Safety and Customer Focus\n* Implement infection control measures to ensure safety for patients, staff, and visitors.\n* Identify departmental needs and assist in formulating action plans.\n* Oversee ward inventory, order supplies, and coordinate equipment maintenance with Biomedical Engineering.\n* Ensure all surgical procedures are performed safely, mitigating unexpected outcomes.\n* Interpret critical values and pertinent information related to surgical investigations for prompt action.\n* Investigate patient complaints and incidents promptly per hospital policy.\n\nCommunication and Learning\n* Communicate effectively with other professionals and families to advocate for patients.\n* Promote positive interpersonal relationships within the nursing team and other disciplines.\n* Stay updated with professional knowledge, research, and new technology in safe surgical processes.\n* Participate in development of auditable standards and orientation programs for new staff.\n\nOperational Performance\n* Monitor performance against key objectives and identify corrective actions for improvement.\n* Develop unit staffing patterns and schedules that facilitate efficient care within budgetary constraints.\n* Prepare monthly rotas and maintain quarterly statistics for unit reporting.\n\n### Qualifications, Skills & Experience\n* KRN/KRM/KRCHN/ POST RN Degree/ Bachelor of Science in Nursing.\n* Higher Diploma in Peri-operative nursing (KRPON) with relevant Certification.\n* Current nursing license in good standing with the Nursing Council of Kenya.\n* Minimum five (5) years’ progressive leadership experience in a theatre setting.\n* Required Certifications: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS).\n* Recommended Certification: Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).\n* Essential training in Leadership and Counseling courses.\n* Strong managerial, interpersonal, communication, and customer care skills.\n\n### How to Apply\nSend your application letter and CV ONLY to recruitment@aarhospital.com.
