Role Overview
The NOC Shift Engineer is responsible for monitoring the ICT & Telecoms infrastructure, network, and systems for stability to maintain 24x7 operations and resolve service impacts as they occur.
Key Responsibilities
- Network Monitoring & Surveillance: Conduct pro-active monitoring of the entire IT Infrastructure and applications systems.
- Performance Management: Monitor, diagnose, and resolve performance issues; use software and hardware monitoring tools to detect and action faults and warnings.
- Incident Resolution: Provide First Line resolution as per SLAs and follow up to confirm service availability and stability after resolution.
- Ticket Management: Log tickets in the ticketing system, take ownership, update with professional information during and after fault resolution, and follow up to closure.
- Service Provider Coordination: Log calls to service providers on various faults captured via proactive monitoring.
- Escalation: Escalate unresolved tickets to SMEs (Level 2/3) or external partners/vendors (e.g., ISPs) as per Incident Management Procedures.
- Reporting: Document and submit daily/shift reports and provide incident reports upon ticket closure.
Requirements
- Academic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Information Science, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or Engineering.
- Certifications: CCNA, ITIL4 Foundation/ITSM, SD-WAN certifications, and ISO Certifications.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of NOC experience, including network support (routing & switching) and experience with banking hardware/software.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in networking principles and protocols (TCP/IP, OSI, IP Addressing, VLANs, MPLS, SD-WAN).
- Ability to configure switches and routers remotely.
- Experience with monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, Dynatrace, and Datadog.
- Strong LAN/WAN troubleshooting and network security skills.
- Scripting skills (e.g., PERL) for provisioning and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with NMS, Ticketing, and Database tools.
- Knowledge of Linux or Windows system administration.
