Role Overview
The International Centre for Reproductive Health (ICRH) Kenya is seeking a Mixed-Methods Research Assistant to support data collection efforts in Mombasa. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting high-quality qualitative and quantitative research within the field of sexual and reproductive health. This role involves recruiting participants in health facilities, administering questionnaires, conducting in-depth interviews, and ensuring the accurate transcription and submission of study data while adhering to strict ethical guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Fieldwork and Training: Attend all in-person project training and fieldwork sessions for the designated period.
Compliance: Sign and comply with all study ethics, confidentiality, and data protection requirements.
Participant Recruitment: Engage with health facility staff to identify and screen eligible participants; obtain informed consent after ensuring they understand the study's purpose.
Data Collection: Administer structured questionnaires (quantitative) and conduct/moderate qualitative interviews (IDIs, KIIs) using semi-structured guides.
Documentation: Accurately document qualitative responses through digital audio recordings and detailed field notes.
Transcription: Prepare and submit verbatim and clean-read transcripts for all assigned qualitative interviews.
Data Management: Ensure timely data entry, verification, and transmission to the central server for quality assurance.
Logistics & Reporting: Manage study equipment (audio recorders, tools), compile daily progress updates, and participate in team debriefing and problem-solving sessions.
Analysis Support: Summarize emerging findings and provide analytical feedback to the research team.
Job Requirements
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Population Health, Nursing, Clinical Medicine, Social Science, or a related health field.
Experience: At least 3 years of experience in sexual and reproductive health research involving qualitative and/or quantitative data collection.
Technical Skills: Demonstrated expertise in conducting IDIs and KIIs, note-taking, and using qualitative research tools.
Clinical Proficiency: Proven experience collecting quantitative data directly from participants in health facility or clinical settings.
Background: Prior experience working with NGOs or reputable research institutions.
Languages: Fluency in English and Swahili (both written and oral). Proficiency in local languages spoken in the region is an added advantage.
Ethics: Commitment to high ethical standards and participant welfare.
Additional Advantage: Knowledge of medical terminology and the ability to interpret basic clinical notes.
