Role Overview
The Medical Representative is a leading driver of customer interactions and sales performance at Novartis. Serving as the face of the customer experience approach, the representative builds deep relationships that deliver value for customers and patients, driving sales growth in a compliant and ethical manner.
Major Accountabilities
- Drive Competitive Sales Growth: Identify and prioritize high-potential customers (HCPs and stakeholders who influence prescription decisions) through data analysis. Drive sales performance through skillful orchestration of positive customer experiences.
- Engage and Build Relationships: Engage in value-based conversations (in-person and virtually) to understand critical customer challenges, decision-drivers, pain points, and opportunities. Personalize and orchestrate customer engagement journeys for target HCPs by reflecting preferences, leveraging content, and using multiple channels.
- Sustained Collaboration: Build engagement by working in partnership with HCPs to develop sustained collaboration over time for Novartis.
- Customer-Centric Experiences: Deliver memorable experiences beyond clinical differentiation by listening to needs and understanding the healthcare environment.
- Opinion Leader Engagement: Establish effective working relationships with opinion leaders and top medical influencers at the territory level and challenge current behaviors to improve the patient journey (right patient, right time).
- Develop Customer Insights: Gather insights on customer business to uncover key priorities; follow up on feedback and translate responses into value-add actions. Leverage available data sources to create, dynamically prioritize, and adjust relevant territory, account, and customer interaction plans.
- Internal Collaboration: Share customer insights with relevant internal stakeholders on an ongoing basis to support the development of product- and indication-related content, campaigns, and interaction plans.
- Deliver Value to Customers & Patients: Collaborate compliantly with cross-functional teams to design and implement solutions that address unmet customer and patient needs. Act as a trusted partner, listening to learn and deepening relationships ethically.
- Ethics & Compliance: Act with integrity and honesty, treating customers and colleagues respectfully. Live by the Novartis Code of Ethics, Values, and Behaviors. Report technical complaints, adverse events, or special case scenarios related to Novartis products within 24 hours of receipt.
- Marketing Samples: Distribute marketing samples where applicable.
Key Performance Indicators
- Assigned targets.
- Contact rate and coverage (daily contact rate vs. benchmark).
- Meetings spend vs. budget.
- Therapy/product knowledge including tertiary evaluations of progress.
- Delivery of customer-centric activities in agreement with District Manager.
- Territory administration (accurate and timely reports).
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree in pharmacy, life science, or any relevant discipline.
- Work Experience: Minimum 5 years' experience in pharmaceutical/medical sales or allied industry.
- Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of the pharma industry and its changing environment; prior experience in the cardiovascular therapeutic area is beneficial.
- Attributes: Professional accomplishments reflecting achievement orientation, self-motivation, initiative, independence, and strong customer service orientation.
- Language: Professional fluency in English.
