Job Description
The Mater Hospital, opened in 1962 by the Sisters of Mercy, is seeking a qualified Medical Officer to join its medical team in Nairobi.
Role Purpose
The Medical Officer will be responsible for managing, stabilizing, and treating patients presenting with minor ailments and clinical emergencies. The role involves conducting comprehensive patient evaluations, performing minor clinical procedures, collaborating with specialist consultants, and participating in quality improvement and outreach programs.
Key Responsibilities
Managing, stabilizing, and treating all patients—both minor ailments and emergencies.
Assessing the urgency and severity of presenting problems through history taking, examination, and investigation.
Admitting, discharging, and referring patients to specialists as appropriate.
Referring patients for diagnostic, therapeutic, and support services as required.
Undertaking clinical and minor procedures within the unit.
Participating in hospital rounds including fixing cannulas, fixing catheters, reviewing patients, etc.
Ensuring all patients coming to the clinic are attended to within a reasonable time.
Participating in ambulance services.
Preparing weekly work/activity plans for review.
Carrying out patient reviews and providing feedback to the respective consultants.
Closely monitoring morbidity and mortality trends together with all other health indicators.
Participating in primary health care through counseling and outreach programs.
Participating in continuous medical education (CME) programs.
Participating in quality improvement initiatives within the department and providing reports as required.
Carrying out other relevant or requested duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB)
BLS, ACLS & ATLS Training
Minimum 2 years of experience as a Medical Officer
Registered with KMPDC with a valid practicing license
Computer Proficiency
Previous experience in a busy hospital will be an added advantage
