Job Description
Kirinyaga University (KyU) is seeking a qualified and experienced Laboratory Technologist Grade 10 to oversee and execute key laboratory operations, maintain records, and perform critical testing and specimen analysis.
Key Responsibilities
Collecting, analyzing, and preserving test samples
Carrying out blood grouping
Storing blood products according to their requirements
Screening for blood transfusion infections
Issuing blood and blood products to peripheral health facilities as per requests
Preparing blood products for safe custody or use
Decontaminating working benches
Receiving and scrutinizing laboratory requisition forms and specimens
Preparing clients for the collection of specimens
Receiving, collecting, labeling, and registering specimens
Disaggregating specimens for processing and analyses
Preparing stains
Dispatching results for use in clinical management
Preparing reagents
Examining specimens
Writing and recording of results
Maintaining analytical database, laboratory stores, records, and equipment
Writing laboratory reports
Qualifications & Requirements
Registered with a recognized professional body
Valid practicing license
Computer literacy
Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Microbiology, Forensic Science, or Biotechnology
Cumulative service period of six (6) years' relevant work experience, three (3) of which should have been at the grade of Medical Laboratory Technologist II or in a comparable position
