Role Overview
The Manager, Banking Unit, Branch/Centre Services at the Mombasa branch ensures the provision of efficient, effective, and high-quality banking services in line with the Central Bank of Kenya’s procedures and strategic objectives. This senior role involves overseeing critical banking and financial market functions including account management, clearing operations, government payments, and risk management.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic & Leadership Responsibilities
- Contribute to the achievement of the Bank’s strategic objectives and provide input into the Banking Strategic Plan.
- Prepare yearly budgets for the Banking Unit in consultation with Head Office.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to foster a high-performing culture.
- Conduct performance assessments for staff in the Banking Unit.
- Develop and maintain working relationships with external stakeholders including Government departments, County Governments, and commercial banks.
Technical and Operational Responsibilities
- Oversee provision of efficient services to customers and manage branch teller functions.
- Approve the opening, amending, and closing of customer bank accounts and manage mandates.
- Provide first/second level approval for funds transfers and reversals in the T24 System.
- Manage the custody and transmission of outward cheques for clearing.
- Authorize Till opening and closure, and approve internal vouchers above cashier limits.
- Ensure timely reconciliations of all Bank Accounts and monitoring of internal suspense accounts.
- Manage document management including filing, retention, and disposal per Bank policy.
- Participate in systems development testing (e.g., T24, Financial Markets) and assist customers with the DhowCSD System.
- Oversee the Agricultural market perception survey for the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC).
- Handle liaison functions for the Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation (KDIC).
Requirements
Educational and Professional Qualifications
- Academic: Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Banking, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Alternative: Ten (10) years of work experience in relevant operations with at least two (2) years in a supervisory capacity can be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Advantageous: A Master’s Degree or professional qualifications in Banking, Accounting (CPA/ACCA), Finance, or Risk Management.
Work Experience
- Not less than six (6) years of work experience in Banking Operations, Financial Services, Economics, or Accounting.
- At least two (2) years of the experience must be in a supervisory capacity.
